Great Egyptian Museum
Cairo, Egypt 2002Proposal for the international competition sponsored by UNESCO and the Egyptian government. The building functions as a large pedestrian street connecting two avenues on the Giza Plateau, where the three largest pyramids in Egypt are located. Beneath this public street will be the permanent exhibition documenting the nine periods of Egyptian history. The street is the physical representation of these nine periods of Egyptian civilization: the higher the level of the street, the more recent the historical period displayed beneath it. A park cuts through the building and connects it, through an imaginary line, to the diagonal of the Pyramid of Khufu.
